This 8.5-inch stoneware vase carries the dynamic effects of wood firing, where flame and ash dictate the final surface. The iron-rich clay body has turned deep red-brown in areas untouched by ash, while the rest of the form is layered with yellow-green hardwood ash, creating intricate webbing and streaks across its surface.
Three distinct shell marks remain as evidence of the kiln’s process, along with a biduro—a Japanese wood-firing term for a glass-like ash drip—where melted ash gathered along the underside. A piece that reflects both the intentionality of form and the raw influence of fire.
